Hey Urbaniters!

Welcome to day 3! Today is all about the letter 'C' and this post is dedicated to a truly classic dessert, CAKE!!

So I thought this would be the perfect time for me to share with you guys my current favourite - the Strawberry Watermelon Cake from local bakery/cafe Cream & Custard.

The strawberry watermelon cake by Cream & Custard is the first of its kind in Singapore. Having heard rave reviews about it from my friends, needless to say, I was dying to try it. And once I took a bite, BOY WAS I IMPRESSED!

This cake consists of two layers of almond dacquoise, fresh rose whipped cream and a WHOLE SQUARE-SHAPED CHUNK OF WATERMELON. Seriously, epic food doesn't get any better than this. The light and refreshing layers of cream melt in your mouth and the subtle rose flavour is satisfying and not at all overpowering. The cake is also topped with berries, strawberries and edible flowers that complement the creaminess really well.

But the star of the dessert was definitely the watermelon slice nestled in between. At first, I thought the watermelon would leave the cake watery and diluted, but that was far from the case. The fruit retains its moisture, leaving you feeling refreshed after each bite. Way better than a watermelon smoothie, I say! The almond dacquoise layers also added a nice crunch overall.

What I found so interesting about this dessert was that it is unconventional in the way it is made, as there is no traditional sponge base in the cake itself. It was more like a reconstructed fruit parfait in the shape of a pastry. The aesthetic appeal of the cake definitely shines through, so with this cake, you can eat with your eyes too!! Some may even consider this a healthier cake because it is not too sweet, and also because of the number of fruits adorning it.

Hope you guys enjoyed this review of Cream & Custard's Strawberry Watermelon Cake :) I highly recommend you guys to make a trip to the cafe and try it for yourself (and the other desserts too). This Urbaniter here promises you won't regret it!
