Hello fellow Urbanites!!

Dim Sum (點心) could be classified as one of the most important food cultures that we have adapted from overseas. It's no surprise as to why Singaporeans love Dim Sum and why Dim Sum loves Singaporeans.

For day 4 of the No'Z' journey and to celebrate the weekend coming (yay!!), the post will feature not one, but TWO Dim Sum restaurants!!

First up, LEGENDARY HONG KONG RESTAURANT located at Jurong Point. Stepping into the restaurant takes you down memory lane to what traditional HK dim sum restaurants used to be; the bustling morning crowd enjoying the delicacies over breakfast or lunch.

Here in the Urbanite community we pride ourselves with honest reviews of the food that we eat and it's safe to say this restaurant has something legendary about them indeed. A classic dim sum meal in the picture above, the 'retro-themed' restaurant has managed to stir up local delights with great effect.

Although the classic dishes that we ordered (prawn dumplings, BBQ pork bun, BBQ pork puffs, fried wanton dumpling and egg tarts) tasted good, egg tarts and the pork puff (bottom white square plate) was too soft and flaky for us to properly savor the essence of the dish. The fried wanton dumpling was a tad overcooked as well, overpowering the shrimp inside that would otherwise give it the "outside-crisp-inside-supple" hallmark of fried delicacies. The salted egg and diced pork fried rice, too was good but not great. The combination of flavors in the rice seemed forced and did not compliment well with one another. It felt like a poor attempt at jumping on the "salted egg bandwagon".

On the other hand, the other two dishes (durian tart and thick rice roll w/ deep friend shrimp rolls) were indeed legendary.

The durian tart, with its dark puffed dome soft yet well baked, has a sweet durian filling that melts in your mouth from the first bite. For the full explosion of flavors, we recommend enjoying the whole durian tart in one bite (not for the faint-hearted).

Lastly, the best dish of the meal was definitely the 'thick rice roll w/ deep friend shrimp rolls' (春风得意肠粉). In fact, it was so great that we ordered two! The perfect amalgamation of the deep fried shrimp with the rice roll was simply breathtaking. I had to be stopped by my friends from ordering an extra plate!

For drinks, a must-try would be their Yuan-yang (鸳鸯). A popular drinks among Hong Kong-ers and a great blend of tea and coffee in a cup!

Food Tip: To pour sauce over a plate of rice rolls, be sure to tilt it steadily instead of being overpowering. This tip works well as a life advice too.

But wait!! There's more. Here's a restaurant that will undoubtedly whet your fancy palettes!

Located in the dainty town mall of Tampines 1, Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant will leave you satisfied, feeling like an emperor/empress!

Having been awarded 49th out of 50 Best restaurants in Asia, it is no wonder long queues form outside this restaurant during mealtimes and weekends. Side note: going into the restaurant dressed like an emperor will make you feel like a king (do so at your own risk).

Even if you bear no resemblance to Ming dynasty's royalty, you can be assured of the premium service that the restaurant provides to its patrons.

As the saying goes, "A complete meal feasts the stomach as well as the eyes." The first dish that we had was steam rice roll with soy sauce.

Rice rolls are usually served with sweet sauce, as per many Dim Sum restaurants. However, light soy sauce that carries a less powerful flavor is a perfect complement for such a neutral dish like the rice roll. However, the dish could use a little bit of decoration to make it more palatable.

Next up was the famed roasted duck that is the hallmark of the restaurant. Just by the shiny-ness of the skin you could tell that we enjoyed every last part of it.

And we did. What makes duck meat so delectable is how soft the meat is, after it's prepared. The duck meat here thoroughly absorbed the oil to produce a wonderful, yet sinful taste that just leaves you speechless.

For a softer and a more supple meat, Pork ribs with onion and sweet sauce will be the perfect choice that runs the gamut of your taste buds with the blend of onion and sweet sauce.

Last but not least, the congee with steam fish and You Tiao is a classic dish that can't be missed. The mild flavor alone would be enough to cleanse your taste buds after the flavorful meats mentioned above.

It's good to note that in order to have the classic Dim Sum experience, it would be appropriate to have the congee mid meal and the meats separated for the meats to have the maximum impact on your palettes.

Overall: 4/5

Price : $$$$$ ($150 for 4 pax)

That's all for D for Dim Sum!! Check us out often for more delectable foods and awesome reviews! Goodbye fellow Urbanites!! :)
